TreesCassia fistula, commonly known as the "Golden Shower Tree" or "Indian Laburnum," is a deciduous flowering tree belonging to the family Fabaceae. It is native to the Indian subcontinent but is also found in other tropical and subtropical regions around the world. This tree is well-known for its stunning display of bright yellow flowers, which gives it the nickname "Golden Shower."

Plant Description:

  1. Size: Cassia fistula can grow to be a medium to large-sized tree, reaching heights of about 10 to 20 meters (30 to 65 feet) tall. Its canopy can spread out to about 7 to 12 meters (23 to 40 feet) wide.

  2. Leaves: The leaves of Cassia fistula are pinnately compound, meaning they are made up of multiple leaflets arranged on either side of a central stalk (rachis). Each leaf usually has 6 to 12 pairs of leaflets, and one terminal leaflet, giving it a feathery appearance. The leaflets are oval-shaped, smooth, and glossy, with a vibrant green color.

  3. Flowers: The Golden Shower Tree is most famous for its striking, cascading clusters of bright yellow flowers. These flowers are pendulous and have five petals. The blooms can be quite large, measuring about 4 to 6 centimeters (1.5 to 2.5 inches) in diameter. The tree produces an abundance of flowers during its flowering season, creating a beautiful spectacle.

  4. Fruits: After the flowering season, long and cylindrical seed pods (legumes) develop. The pods are initially green but turn dark brown as they mature. When fully ripe, they can reach lengths of about 30 to 60 centimeters (12 to 24 inches). Each pod contains several seeds.

  5. Bark: The bark of Cassia fistula is grayish-brown and becomes rough and furrowed as the tree matures.
