The Golden Rain Tree, also known by its scientific name Koelreuteria paniculata, is a beautiful and ornamental deciduous tree that is widely cultivated for its striking appearance and attractive features. Here's a description of the Golden Rain Tree:

  1. Appearance: The Golden Rain Tree typically grows to a height of 30 to 40 feet (9 to 12 meters) and spreads about 30 to 35 feet (9 to 11 meters) wide, forming a rounded canopy with a moderately dense foliage.

  2. Leaves: The tree's leaves are pinnately compound, consisting of 7 to 15 leaflets arranged in an alternate pattern along the stem. Each leaflet is lance-shaped and measures about 2 to 4 inches (5 to 10 centimeters) long, with a serrated edge. The foliage has a vibrant green color during the growing season, which turns yellow in the fall, adding to its visual appeal.

  3. Flowers: In late spring to early summer, the Golden Rain Tree produces showy and fragrant flowers that hang in large, drooping panicles. Each panicle contains numerous small, individual yellow flowers, resembling the appearance of golden rain when in bloom, hence the name of the tree. The blossoms attract bees and other pollinators.

  4. Fruits: Following the flowering period, the tree forms interesting fruit capsules that are papery and lantern-shaped, about 1 inch (2.5 centimeters) in diameter. These capsules enclose small black seeds and can persist on the tree into the winter, providing additional interest.

  5. Bark: The bark of young Golden Rain Trees is smooth and greenish-brown, eventually maturing to a rougher texture with patches of grey and brown as the tree ages.

  6. Landscape use: Due to its striking appearance and beautiful floral display, the Golden Rain Tree is often planted as an ornamental tree in gardens, parks, and along streets. It is well-suited for urban environments and adds a touch of elegance to any landscape.
