American Wisteria / Wisteria frutescens

American Wisteria, also known as Wisteria frutescens, is a native flowering vine found in various regions of the southeastern United States. It is a member of the Fabaceae (pea) family and is closely related to the more widely known Asian Wisteria species (Wisteria sinensis and Wisteria floribunda). While the Asian varieties are known for their vigorous growth and large clusters of flowers, American Wisteria offers a more restrained growth habit and equally beautiful blooms.
